It was a windy Saturday morning with plenty of sunshine. Naturally, ones thoughts turn to cycling and a trip to the park. Why not toss the radio into the panniers and ride? Why not indeed!
That’s exactly what my wife and I did. We rode out to Cuyahoga Valley National Park – K-0020 for a quiet couple of hours. Quiet but for the wind, that is.
It was really, really, really windy. So much so that I had to turn the bike so that it could support the swaying of the mast in the wind. That was new to me! It also showed me that my end-fed needs to change a little. It has a coil about 1/4 of the way from the top that adds just enough weight to pull the mast a bit. In a tree it’s not a problem at all. But on the mast it’s…not great. Perhaps I should say Less Than Optimal. So I’ll try something new next time.
With the mast up, I was moving quickly. I ended up with 24 contacts in about an hour. Not too bad! All data this time as my wife and I were having a good chat while I worked away on FT8.
It was a good activation with pretty good conditions on 20m. Here’s the map:
