This past weekend, PCARS went out to the Akron Maker Faire to show off ham radio. We put a SuperAntenna up on the roof of the building and dropped a cable down to the main display area.
I set up my portable station. It was simply my IC-705 and the MS Surface Go 2 running WSJT-X. There were a number of contacts made at 5 watts. I hit Puerto Rico, ND, TX, CO, and others.
It was fun to talk with people about what we were doing and how the radio worked. What the software was up to and why it was fun. What really came through to me was that people don’t really get radio (which is to be expected) though I think a few might have understood why it was fun.
